Reef Damage
(August 31, 2003)

 On 8-31-2003 ,Vone Research Inc. continued it's monitoring of the Coral Restoration Project at Hillsboro Inlet. This report will review two sites:

1) Site IA-6 (previously known as sites #1, #2 & #13) We are pleased to report all but 1 of the 75+ dredge teeth were removed;

2) Site IA-13 (previously known as site #27 ) This site was reported repaired, however, no repair work is evident. It was discovered that much of the soft coral mentioned in past reports has been swept away or is dead. 11 hard corals were turned upright and tagged. One sea fan was also tagged. This area needs to be stabilized.

We have reported on Site IA-13 for several months, detailing its lack of restoration. Has this site been left to die? Inaction has already taken it's toll on the soft coral and will soon cause irreparable damage to the hard coral if something isn't done.

With all this said, would it be possible for Vone Research Inc to be granted permits to stabilize the corals on this site?
