Reef Damage
(November 28,2002)
Tim,
We went out today to show some people a few of the prettiest reefs in
the area. What we found was not what we expected. We found 3 new
impacted areas.
On the third reef , on the inside, at 26 .14. 945 N
080.03.946W in
47 feet of water is the first location. There is evidence of an obvious
cable drag. There are over 40 dredge teeth scattered east to west.
At the second location we found damaged rare pillar coral and another
cable drag approximately 50 feet long. You have the GPS coordinates
for this location.
Finally, the third location had impact that is insignificant to the
reef . It is 2 piles of dredge material in the sand. It is located
close to the
staging anchor for the scow. It may be significant to Broward County
because it is in borrow area II.
