Reef Damage
(December 8,2002)

2      Damage on Lighthouse Ledge report by Captain
Dave  of South FL Diving Headquarters
                     3      N26.15.509  W080.03.809

To whom it may concern:
On 12/8/02 the  Vone team was working with other volunteers to clean up
under and around the Commercial
Blvd. pier.  There were approximately 80 volunteers. We believe the
time would have been better spent
saving our reef.
Our hands are tied because our permit has been denied. I was told by
Lisa Gregg " In the event that the corals do not survive remediation
efforts, the dredging company will then have to mitigate any losses.
It is in their best interests to move quickly and effectively to
minimize their losses."  Would someone please tell me which coral
species I should
monitor as it dies.
When we reported the pillar coral damage on 11/28/02  all of the pieces
were alive. Now 2 are almost dead.
In light of all that we have done, we believe the our questions that
still remain should be answered.
1. When will  the pillar coral be stabilized?
2. Who will be held responsible for the damage?
3. Why can't we help?
4. Is Broward County now in charge of this mitigation project?
